This course examines human skeletal remains, the processes of decomposition, and the proper retrieval of human skeletal remains from a crime scene. The theories and methods behind forensic anthropology will be discussed and practiced throughout the course. Case studies of crime scenes in the US, as well as clandestine graves from around the world, will be drawn upon. This course offers a systems-ecology perspective, exploring structure, function and the dynamics of watershed systems that link the land and the sea. This course specifically investigates surface waters, describing lotic, or flowing water, systems from their thinnest beginnings in the mountains to the salt-wedge estuaries of their river mouths. Also included are the lentic or 'still' water systems (temporary and permanent pools, ponds, lakes, reservoirs and lagoons), and wetlands.
