Summer in Cyprus

The Summer in Cyprus program is a traditional immersion experience into the summer session at Intercollege, designed to provide substantial freedom for independent exploration of Nicosia and Cyprus. Summer courses operate on a different schedule than semester courses and, therefore, students on this program have significant amounts of free time during the week; this program is more suited to the independent and motivated student. The program includes cultural events and travel to major cities in Cyprus on most weekends. Students who prefer a more structured experience should consider our other European or Mediterranean programs based in Cyprus.

Semester in the Mediterranean

This program is a program based on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus that combines a traditional immersion study abroad experience with educational travel to Greece, Italy and Spain and co-curricular focus on Mediterranean cultures. Students will experience Athens, Rome, Pisa, Florence, Venice and Barcelona on the travel component of this program. The travel component does not impact the classroom schedule and is combined with co-curricular material relating to Mediterranean culture. Semester in Cyprus

The Semester in Cyprus program is a traditional full-immersion semester based in Nicosia. Students can completely customize their course curriculum across a wide range of courses available at Intercollege. In addition to the academic coursework, students participate in a series of educational trips and cultural excursions within Cyprus. The excursions and cultural events ensure that students visit major cities in Cyprus, develop a relationship with the local culture and enhance their intercultural competencies. This program is appropriate for a wide range of students.

Summer in the Mediterranean: Early Christianity

The Summer in the Mediterranean: Early Christianity program allows students to trace the early footsteps of the Apostles as they spread Christianity westward from Cyprus to Greece and Italy. Cyprus was the first country to convert to Christianity and has an ancient Christian and Byzantine heritage. The coursework of this program focuses on early Christian thought and Art History, with an emphasis on Byzantine Art. Summer in Cyprus: Health Sciences

The Summer in Cyprus: Health Sciences is a program designed for the pre-medical, nursing or health sciences student. Students on this program study management of care in an international setting and also participate in a practicum at a local private clinic. The course on management of care includes visits to multiple modern and older hospitals and clinics throughout the island, allowing students to develop a comparative understanding of international clinical settings. This is one of very few opportunities for undergraduate study abroad students to spend time in a clinical setting.

Summer in the Mediterranean: Art and Photography

This program aims to provide an academic introduction to photography and painting, with an emphasis on practical concepts in both fields. Students have the opportunity to practice their skills and build a trial portfolio through field exercises in some of the most inspiring landscapes and cities in the world. Students travel to Athens and Rome by air and several Greek islands by cruise ship. This is an academic, but introductory level, program; more advanced photography or painting students should contact us to arrange advanced coursework or independent study.

Summer in the Mediterranean: Greek Heritage

This program is designed for students who would like an introduction to Modern Greek in an immersive setting, in one of the only two Greek-speaking countries in the world. The program combines language coursework along with cultural field exercises in Cyprus and Greece to build basic language proficiency and comprehension. Students visit Athens and the Greek islands by cruise ship. There is also a small program visit to Rome. This program is designed for students with modest or no Greek language skills.

The Semester in Cyprus: Business program is designed for business students who would like to gain exposure to an international business environment in a manageable and accessible setting. Summer in Cyprus: Geology

This program is designed for geology students who would like the opportunity to study Cyprus, a geologically interesting country. The Troodos massif is probably the most intensively studied and best known ophiolite in the world. Ophiolites are terrestrial fragments of ancient oceanic lithosphere formed at fossil constructive plate margins. This program will combine academic work with guided field excursions to Troodos and other geologically important sites in Cyprus.

This program is intended for undergraduate students in the Performing Arts (Music). Students on this program obtain a unique experience where theory courses are combined with practical courses focusing on Greek music. Non-major students may enroll in these courses if they have prior knowledge or interest in either music or dance. Summer in Cyprus: International Relations

The program is designed for IR, Politics and other Social Sciences students who want to gain exposure to the complex geopolitical issues of the Eastern Mediterranean. Cyprus is a stable and accessible learning laboratory for students to explore current international issues such as the EU enlargement, Greco-Turkish relations, southeastern Mediterranean issues, the Middle East, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. You will take courses in Nicosia, the last divided capital in the world and participate in a series of cultural excursions and educational trips within Cyprus, including visits in both communities as well as the United Nations Forces in Cyprus.

Summer in Cyprus: Animal Science

This program allows pre-veterinary students to study animal health and disease in large and domestic animals. This program is unique in study abroad, as it is a field-study course, and the academic experience is very hands-on including supervised practical and demonstration experiences at farms. This is a superb summer experience for all biology, animal science or pre-veterinary students looking to enhance their knowledge and practice skills working with animals. All courses will be taught in English at the University of Nicosia, in Nicosia, Cyprus.
