Description

Young Judaea Year Course in Israel is a 9-month program of formal and informal education for recent high school graduates. Spend a dynamic year living, volunteering and studying in Israel. Placements include: Bat Yam Studies, Kibbutz, Community Volunteering, Army, Moshav, Magen David Adom and more. Participants earn up to a year's worth of college credit through the University of Judaism while building leadership skills and developing and strengthening their relationship with the country's land and people.

Established in 1956, Year Course provides a challenging year of education and life-impacting experiences. Year Course consists of several different components: formal academic studies and field trips based in Jerusalem, several periods of volunteer/living experiences in different Israeli community settings and extended trips to different parts of the country.

The academic portion of the Year Course program is operated in conjunction with the American Jewish University-in-Israel. American Jewish University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Year Course is an intensive group experience. Participants live with their group for most of the year -traveling, studying and volunteering together-enabling life-long friendships to be formed. Year Course in Israel is an enriching program and one that provides participants with the opportunity to experience many different aspects of Israeli life.

Highlights

Throughout Year Course, program participants will have the opportunity to volunteer in elementary and high schools, tutoring students in English, working in after school programs in community centers, volunteering with Magen David Adom, Israel's emergency ambulance service, or they may participate in a simulated basic training army program with teens from around the world. Opportunities for peer mentoring, working with animals, archaeology and environmental placements are available. Academic credit is earned through the University of Judaism.

The all new Social Action Program in Ghana allows participants to spend 3 months in Ghana working on community projects which include Aids prevention, training for street youth, economic development for women, and improvement of human settlements and shelter conditions.
