Description

The Nagasaki Program is ideal for those who wish to combine academic coursework with living in this beautiful harbor city with a semitropical climate. The JAISN program at Nagasaki University of Foregin Studies caters to non-native students, with the focus on Japanese society and culture. Nearly 30% of the student body of this small university comes from other countries, thus enhancing the educational experience of both native and non-native students with a diverse campus population where each student is focused on learning a language and culture other than their own. Students may enroll for one or two semesters and have the opportunity to study Japanese language at five different levels as well as a wide selection of Japanese society and culture courses taught in English. The academic courses are only part of the intended value of a semester or year abroad. Participation in formal and informal activities, such as field trips, form an integral part of the program.

Highlights

Nagasaki is located on the extreme western point of the four main islands of Japan. The city is built around a natural deep harbor and the rest of the city winds around, and up and down, the more than 100 mountains in the city limits. Japanese conversation partners are available to language students, and homestays allow students to get a first hand experience in Japanese life. An overnight field trip to Unzen National Park and hot springs allow students to explore Japan outside of the classroom.
