Study abroad this summer at an ABA-accredited program at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland's historic university founded in 1495.

The program is co-sponsored by the University of Baltimore School of Law and the University of Maryland School of Law, and hosted by the University of Aberdeen, and is accredited by the American Bar Association.

The Aberdeen summer abroad program in comparative law provides a new perspective on the American legal system.

Courses focus on a comparison of U.S. and U.K. laws. The program's unique feature is that each course is designed and taught by a team of professors from the United States and Scotland. Classes are interactive and students are able to discuss course materials with faculty and participating Aberdeen students at a daily morning coffee break. 20 American law students participated in the 2008 program, and 32 American law students from around the country are enrolled in the 2009 program.

Fees cover course materials and all program activities, including a visit to Edinburgh and its courts, a trip to historic Fyvie Castle, Scottish dancing at a traditional ceilidh, receptions, a formal country house-hotel dinner and a final luncheon party. Room and board are additional and can be arranged through the University of Aberdeen or through independent housing services. Students must make their own travel arrangements to Aberdeen, with round-trip transportation costing approximately USD 1000 to USD 1300. Students must have valid passports and are advised to have medical insurance coverage while abroad, although they can obtain emergency medical care at the student health center in Aberdeen. Interested students should check with the financial aid office of their home institution to determine financial aid eligibility and availability.

This program is open to all students who have completed their first-year courses and are in good academic standing at an ABA-accredited law school. Students who attend a law school other than the University of Baltimore or the University of Maryland must submit a letter from their law school verifying that they meet the above requirements. Students will be accepted into the program in the order in which they apply. The acceptance of credit is subject to the determination of each student's home school. Credits can accelerate graduation at the University of Baltimore and the University of Maryland; other students should consult with their home schools.
