Term: Fall, Spring, Academic Year
Dates: August-December, March-June
Description
Held at Tokyo International University, the Japan Studies Program (JSP) offers students intensive Japanese language courses at five levels, beginner to 5th year, as well as area studies electives. Class sizes range from 3 to 12 students, and feature great teacher-student interaction.
Tokyo International University (TIU) is home to a Japanese student body of 5000+ active and genki students. JSP students find it easy to make friends, join student clubs, and experience Japanese college life.
TIU's Campus 1 is located in the ancient castle town of Kawagoe, just outside of Tokyo. Our location offers easy access to heart of Tokyo, as well as to the slower rural and picturesque areas of the Kantou plain.
Host family accommodation provide students the authentic experience of daily life in Japan. Students often form close and lasting bond with their host family (Just read our testimonials!).
Credit gained on the JSP transfers without problem to the majority of US and European colleges and universities. TIU is a fully accredited Japanese University. The JSP features both language and area studies courses. Our area studies are taught in English, so Japanese fluency is not required to earn course credit.

Tokyo International University's Mission Statement
The Japan Studies Program is conducted by Tokyo International University. Since its founding in 1965, TIU has emphasized international studies and exchange in order to produce internationally-minded students. Tokyo International University founded the Japan Studies Program (JSP) to meet the growing interest among English speaking university students to study in Japan. The JSP is a one to two-semester study abroad program open to English speaking students in all fields of study from accredited universities and colleges around the world. The program is designed to meet a wide range of student needs in regards to specific majors or academic requirements. In addition to the required Japanese language courses, students are offered Japanese studies elective classes as well as various field trips, excursions, and cultural activities. These, along with homestay, provide students an unparalleled opportunity to learn the Japanese culture and language.
