Description

Namibia, famous for its Namib Desert and national parks, possesses some of the most striking ecosystems on the African continent. Distinctive African megafauna can be observed as well as several species of birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Botanically, Namibia offers an enormous variety of arid-region succulent plants. Participants will visit the true coastal Namib Desert, traversing inland through the cline of arid and semi arid habitats and exploring first-hand the change of climate and landscape. Students will also travel to the enigmatic Epupa Falls, situated along the Kunene River in a mopane savanna.

The Namibia program provides a closeup view of the countrys issues related to research and conservation. Students will hear from representatives from government, university and non-governmental organizations; and visit field research stations, reserves, national parks and conservation organizations. Participants will learn about different ecosystems, their conservation status, and management options with the Namibian context.

Highlights

Experiencing Namibia's extraordinary natural beauty, exploring Etosha National Park, Epupa Falls and the Gobabeb Research Centre (sites may vary), visiting Namibias capital, Windhoek, and conducting hands-on field research.
