Description

In January, the American University in Cairo holds a three-week winter session that allows visiting students to take concentrated study in either beginning Modern Standard Arabic or to elect to take one of a variety of subjects that change annually. Visiting students study in English with AUC's regular student body. In the past, courses have included subjects in environmental biology and in Middle East studies. Planned cultural activities and travel to important sites near Cairo and within Egypt are an important part of the winter session. A comprehensive fee covers tuition, academic fees and housing. Applications are due October 15.

Highlights

Extracurricular activities are planned for the students and faculty, including trips and cultural events such as performances of Arabic music and art shows. An informal athletic program offers basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, and table tennis. Seminars and special lectures by distinguished visitors are also an occasional part of the Winter Session.
