How long is the General English course?
- From 5 weeks to 50 weeks

When do General English courses start?
- Every five weeks.
- Courses at Newcastle start every Monday during term.

- At seven TAFE NSW English Language Centres:

English Language Centers in Sydney

- Ultimo (Sydney Institute)
- Crows Nest (Northern Sydney Institute)
- Liverpool (South Western Sydney Institute)

English Language Centres outside Sydney

- Kingscliff and Port Macquarie (North Coast Institute)
- Newcastle (Hunter Institute)
- Wollongong (Illawarra Institute)

What are the stages of General English?

General English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

- For beginner to intermediate level (525 weeks)
- Develops English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
- Strong focus on pronunciation and vocabulary extension

Certificate 3 in English for Further Study

- For intermediate learners (520 weeks)
- Prepares you for Certificate or Diploma studies at TAFE NSW, or for university
- Your visa requirements may also require you to sit for an IELTS test

Advanced English

- For upper intermediate to advanced learners (510 weeks)
- Develops high level study skills
- Prepares you for the IELTS test, Interpreting Diploma, or working with English speakers
- Available at selected English centres only

* Academic English

What is English for Academic Purposes?

- Full-time preparation course for further studies at Australian tertiary institutions
- Teaches academic writing, listening, note taking, reading comprehension, academic speech (for oral presentations and seminars) and integrated study skills
- Includes grammar, English for social purposes, vocabulary, pronunciation and computer literacy

Does English for Academic Purposes help me get into other courses?

Yes. English for Academic Purposes provides direct entry to some universities.
