Description

SUNY New Paltz Study Abroad program in London, England is conducted by Kingston University, a fully accredited university that issues all transcripts. Students are expected to carry a full-time academic load (12-15 undergraduate credits per semester) and will be offered a variety of courses to choose from toward their degree.

London is the center of commercial and artistic life in Great Britain. It is world famous for its parks, monuments, museums, concert halls and theatres. You can spend the day shopping in Camden Town and see a play by night in the world famous West End. It is truly one of the greatest cities in the world! A participant in the Kingston University program not only has the opportunity to study in an academically challenging and demanding climate, but also to enjoy the almost unlimited possibilities, which the nearby city has to offer. Ample opportunities are available for participants to pursue independent travel within the United Kingdom or to the continent itself.

Kingston supports a variety of amateur musical and theatre groups, and eating out is possible in many Thames side pubs and ever increasing number of restaurants providing an international cuisine. The nearness of London together with the proximity of Richmond Park, Chessington Zoo and theme park, Kew Gardens, and Windsor make Kingston and ideal place for study.

Kingston University has a student population of over 13,000, and over 500 faculty. A recent survey of employers by a British newspaper, the Sunday Times, ranked Kingston the highest university in its class. Time's survey of universities rated Kingston very highly for Teaching Quality and number 1 overall amongst "new" universities. Kingston provides American students with a "total immersion" experience of British life and culture while at the same time taking accredited courses. Students have the option of studying at Kingston University for either the Fall or Spring semesters, or for the entire academic year.

Highlights

College credits: Students are required to take 12-15 undergraduate credits per semester.

Qualifications: (The Program Is Offered To Students Attending American Accredited Universities And Colleges)
This program is open to sophomores, junior and senior college students with 2.75 GPA or higher.

Orientation: An orientation program will also take place at Kingston University prior to the start of the academic semester.

Housing: The University has a limited amount of residence hall accommodations and is normally allocated to first year students. Visiting student who are attending for the whole year may request a room in a residence hall. Most are self-catering singles with shared bathrooms and kitchens. Because of the need to sign up for 42 weeks, residence hall accommodation is not practical for student attending for a semester or a term. For these students we recommend lodgings in local homes within easy traveling distance of the various sights. The accommodation is always a single room in a home and it is normally self-catering; this means full access to a kitchen to prepare meals and the use of a shared bathroom.

Financial Aid: Students may apply for financial aid at their home campus financial aid office. Financial aid deferrals may be applied toward tuition and program fee only.

Health Insurance: All students must have approved insurance coverage while studying abroad.
