Description
The Japan Studies in Nagasaki program offers courses in Japanese language and Japanese society and culture. In addition to the required language course and Japan Studies classes, students have the option to take seminars in Traditional Japanese Arts.
Japanese Language: All levels of Japanese language are offered. Proficiency and placement are determined during orientation. Each class is 6 credits and meets 4 days per week. All language classes have a practical component to allow students to use their skills in everyday situations. Students also have one-on-one sessions twice weekly.
Japan Studies: These classes cover topics such as Business, Society, Economics, Culture, History and Literature. Although most are taught in English, some subjects may be taught in Japanese. Field trips to places of historical, cultural and social interest will be a part of the program.

12-15 undergraduate credits may be earned per semester, six of which must include Japanese language.
Qualifications
Students who are Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors at the time of application, with a required minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher, can apply to the program.
Housing
Most students will be placed in a home stay with a family in the community, 14 meals per week are provided. Female students can take a single room with bath in the college's dormitory, a new facility located on campus. The residence hall provides 14 meals per week during term time, but has restrictions such as a 10:30pm curfew and no visitors.
