Sorrento also provides easy access to Rome and Naples for SAI excursions and guided field studies. Historically, Sorrento was a Greek village prior to the Roman Empire when it became a favorite of wealthy Romans whose villas on the sea are now notable ruins. Today, Sorrento's historical significance is evident and it continues to be a favorite locale for its spectacular natural beauty.
