The Comparative Health Care in Japan Program is an opportunity intended for health care, pre-med, and nursing students who want to add international dimensions to their professions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Michigan State University, the Shiga University of Medical Sciences, and the member universities of the Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU Consortium).
Highlights
This program is comprised of three main components: a Japanese language course focusing on intensive study of medical terminology/health care-related Japanese language and culture, a keystone course on comparative health care, and internships tailored to each participant's area of interest providing an experience working in health care-related institutions or community based service organizations in Japan. JCMU partners with the Shiga University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) for this program, allowing JCMU students to work alongside with graduate students, researchers and professors.

Qualifications
Eligible applicants must complete at least 2 semesters of college in the U.S., hold a 2.5 minimum GPA, and discuss their interest in health care in their application essay. Students from all biomedical fields are encouraged to apply. Students may come from any university. Prior knowledge of Japanese language is not required.
