Dublin enjoys a full and varied cultural and intellectual life, which brings together the best of traditional Ireland and of modern Europe. Fashionable boutiques and upscale restaurants exist alongside second-hand bookshops, street markets, fast food outlets and ethnic eateries of all kinds, many located in the famous Temple Bar area. With one of the youngest populations of Europe's major cities, Dublin offers a great social atmosphere. A notable feature of Dublin life is the tradition of live music in every conceivable venue, from street buskers to traditional Irish music pubs to the National Concert Hall. Within easy reach of the city center is the ferry to Britain and Dublin Airport with discount airlines offering excellent fares to Europe.

Highlights

Ireland's largest university, University College Dublin (UCD) is a dynamic, modern university where cutting-edge research and scholarship provide a stimulating intellectual environment and ideal surroundings for learning and discovery. With five of Ireland's Taoisigh (Prime Ministers) among its alumni, the university has played a key role in the history of the modern Irish State and continues to play a leading part in shaping Ireland's future. The main campus is at Belfield, an easy 2.5 miles bus ride south of Dublin's city center. It is a beautifully landscaped 300-acre campus with strikingly modern arts, commerce, law, agriculture and administration buildings, as well as the library, restaurant, sports center, and student residences.

As a study abroad student at UCD, you may enroll in a wide range of courses within the College of Arts and Celtic Studies; College of Human Sciences; and the College of Business and Law, which offers a pre-law option and coursework in the Quinn School of Business, the only business school in Ireland holding both AACSB and EQUIS accreditations. Within the College of Engineering, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, options exist in Engineering, Architecture, and Science. The College of Life Sciences includes coursework in Agriculture, Food & Nutrition; Nursing & Midwifery; Science; and Sport & Exercise.

The Student Union runs a nightclub, game room, several shops, copying services, a second-hand book store and organizes regular video nights, discos and concerts. Clubs and societies cater to every interest and the campus sports center offers full facilities. You'll live in one of the student villages on campus in a single bedroom sharing bathroom and kitchen facilities with a mix of Irish and international students.
