Description

Nestled in the Tuscan countryside, Siena is a small city of about 70,000 inhabitants, 20,000 of whom are students at the Universita degli Studi di Siena and the Universita per Stranieri di Siena. Siena remains an important political, financial, and artistic center in Italy, and is heralded as one of the best preserved examples of the medieval and renaissance periods. Due to Siena's rich cultural and artistic heritage, and to the fact that many of its buildings are in a very well preserved state, it provides an ideal location for late medieval and renaissance studies and art history. Located just 35 miles southwest of Florence, the location also affords students many opportunities to visit the Tuscan capital.

The IES Abroad Siena program is designed for students with all levels of Italian who are interested in studying the Social Sciences and Humanities in a beautiful provincial setting.

Siena is home to the Universita degli Studi di Siena, one of the oldest universities in Italy that was founded in the 13th century, and to the Universita per Stranieri di Siena. The combined enrollments of these two universities is 20,000 students. The University of Siena has well reputed departments in Economics, Engineering, Humanities and Philosophy, Political Science, Mathematics, and Natural and Physical Sciences.
