IES Abroad Quito - Area Studies & Language Semester/Year Program

Description
A Spanish immersion program with a wide range of courses in a variety of disciplines, the Area Studies & Language Program focuses on Ecuadors ecological and ethnic diversity and the challenges of development. Highlights include unique field trips to the Galapagos Islands and the Amazon region, environmental studies course options, and internship and service learning opportunities.
The IES Abroad Quito program partners with three universities: Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador (PUCE), Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLASCO), and the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS). The IES Abroad Quito Center is located at FLASCO in a new, modern building and includes classrooms, staff offices and computer and library facilities.
The IES Abroad Area Studies and Language Program focuses on Ecuador's ecological and ethnic diversity, and the challenges of development. With this program you will take:
- an IES Abroad core course
- Spanish language courses at IES Abroad
- area studies courses at IES Abroad, FLACSO, PUCE, and UPS
You will choose a core course in Anthropology, Sociology, Environmental Studies, Art, Culture Studies, International Relations, Literature or Political Sciences. Upon qualification, area studies courses from a wide range of disciplines are available at PUCE, FLACSO, UPS and/or IES Abroad.
Highlights
- Improve your Spanish in a required Spanish language course.
- Take a core course at IES Abroad in Anthropology and Sociology;
Environmental Studies; or Political Economics.
- Select from additional IES Abroad Area Studies courses.
- Enroll in local university courses at prestigious universities in Quito:
* Universidad Polétecnica Salesiana (UPS)
* Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLASCO)
* Pontificia Universidad Catýlica del Ecuador (PUCE)
- Gain unique cultural exposure and international work experience through internships or service learning placements.
- Take unique field trips to sites suchs as the Galápagos Islands, Camino del Sol, and the Amazon region.
- Experience local culture through homestays with local families in Quito.
