Description

Titled "Politics and Ethnicity in the Andes," the IES Abroad January Term Program in Riobamba allows students to look at the timely topic of Andean indigenous politics, spending time in Quito and in Cuenca, and will be based in the colorful highland city of Riobamba (125 miles south of Quito). Riobamba is the capital of Chimborazo, and has a large number of indigenous people living in traditional kinship communities. The city is home to the Instituto Santiago de Quito, a liberal arts college affiliated with the University San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), one of the leading research universities in Ecuador.

Since 1950, IES Abroad has been building quality study abroad programs and introducing U.S. students to new places, studies, and ways of thinking. A non-profit educational organization, IES Abroad offers high academic standards and extensive financial aid in almost 80 programs throughout the world.
