Description

We have opportunities for music and arts placements that involve spending time instructing a wide range of performing arts including assisting music classes or leading drama lessons. We have partnered with a music school that offers programs mainly targeting children's centers located at the Bombolulu slums in Mombasa. So for anyone who loves music or plays and instrument, this is a great way to spend a gap year, career break or enriched vacation. Not to mention learning about music abroad.

We conduct basic auditions for students, usually ranging the ages of 4 to 17 years, and group them into various programs. This program helps with personal development for the under-privileged participants in various ways:

- Extra curricular activities are vital for personal development and we design an interactive experience to enable the students develop and discover more about themselves beyond just music skills

- Help the children to discover and develop their musical abilities. It is exciting to watch students from distressed backgrounds discovering music

- Music is therapeutic hence for such children from distressed backgrounds, the environment of learning new skills and instruments is a big relief from their daily less fortunate surroundings and routines.

Our partner school has the following types of instruments and any volunteers that can instruct on them would have a very productive time in our partner center:

* Violin
* Grand Piano
* Guitar Lessons
* Drums
* Saxophone
* Trumpet
* Clarinet
* Flute
* Voice Training

Music occupies a special place in Elective Africa's programs because the origin of the idea of Elective Africa dates back to over 10 years ago when Joshua, our Founder, used to play professional piano and would chat with members of the audience after a performance. One day he was chatting with the audience when a group of doctors expressed interest in finding elective placements for medical students, and that was the beginning of Elective Africa. We hope that through the music program many students from these needy communities and proceed and grow in varied pursuits in life.

Highlights

Simply put, we are a unique organizer of electives, projects and volunteer trips in Africa. We have no equal when it comes to the quality of our programs and the satisfaction of our participants. As you evaluate which program to apply for, we offer to put you in touch with as many of our past participants as you wish. Their feedback will be consistent - Elective Africa programs exceeded their expectations.

Elective Africa has been organizing electives and projects placements in Africa for over 10 years. We are not some online reference bureau that takes your application and hands you over to some unknown project in some foreign land. We have designed these electives and projects ourselves and we have staff on the ground supporting all our placements.

All our programs are designed to clear 4 key hurdles:

* Offer a rich, rare and insightful learning experience
* Applying oneself through hard work to helping less fortunate communities
* Facilitate cultural exchange and appreciation of host country and community
* Provide some time and space for reflection, inspiration and fun
