Description
How do external pressures change the ways individual media enterprises produce, edit and market news, advertising, entertainment and information? The Communication & Mass Media program attracts comm, media studies, journalism, advertising and other majors interested in understanding the reasons, forms and implications of current changes within the mass media industry due to changing competition parameters, the introduction of new technologies, the concentration of ownership, new entrants in the market, and volatile consumers. Students in Communication & Mass Media will enroll in the "Current Trends in News Media" core course taught by Jonas Hall-Norregaard, a researcher at the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and coordinator for U Arhus' journalism program.
In this core course, students will participate in a three-week newsroom simulation project in which they create a media website for a specific news event. This allows students to apply media theories discussed in class to a practical setting. A one-week study tour in London will provide an international comparative perspective - and a chance to get to know faculty and fellow students better. Program includes a week-long study tour to London.
Highlights
Study tours in the Communication & Mass Media program include one short regional tour in Denmark, and one longer European tour to London during the first week of the mid-semester study tour. The study tours feature highly topical study visits to media institutions, newspapers, news agencies, and advertising companies.
