Description

Realize new media art projects in this small, individualized program. Cutting edge local and international artists and a diverse faculty serve as mentors. The program focus is on art, not technology, reconciled with today's world of instant communication found in text, sounds and images. For artists it is necessary to understand the how and why of making relevant work that can be distributed and displayed beyond the cinema.

The New Media program is hosted by FAMU's Center for Audio Visual Studies, an art school within a film school. The department focuses on production of moving image works beyond cinema including topics such as video installation and interactive works, locative and mobile media, code based projects, conceptual artworks, multi-channel and multi-threaded sound and image practice, experimental documentary and expanded-to-database cinema.

Facilities include a black box theater with a 12 channel sound system and the ability to project around the entire room, a Virtual Reality CAVE environment, computers, cameras and projectors. This program is offered every spring semester.
