This exciting maymester program offers students the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Marine Biology issues in Costa Rica. As a renowned leader in the field of environmental conservation, students gain an understanding and appreciation of this through lectures and field work. Students will learn about Costa Rican marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental issues, as well as the importance of Integrated Coastal Management. All classes are conducted in English.

Highlights

The capital city of Costa Rica, San Jose boasts about 1.4 million people and is situated in the Central Valley - guarded by majestic volcanoes and tropical rainforests. The city also is just a few hours away from the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. San Jose is considered the cradle of Costa Rica's 186-year-old democracy, and the country has not had a standing army since 1948. Costa Rica takes great pride in the fact that it has more teachers than policemen. Its former President, Oscar Arias, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987. Renowned for its natural beauty, enlightened conservation and friendly people, San Jose draws visitors from all over the world. CEA students can look forward to experiencing the Costa Rican attractions and lifestyle through trips to Arenal Volcano and hot spring pools, zip lining through Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and experiencing first-hand the unique, Jamaican English culture in Puerto Viejo.
