Description
Immerse yourself into a piece of Spain's long history, grasp an understanding and appreciation of the Arabic culture in Spain, and study one of two local languages. Drawing on Granada's unique multicultural history and Southern European location, this program examines the city's Islamic legacy, established during almost 800 years of Muslim rule. Course options include both Spanish and Arabic language, plus topics in Andalusian and Islamic culture and history. Additional seminars allow you to explore the Islamic heritage of Granada and the region.
Highlights
Author Ernest Hemingway once said, "If you were to visit only a city in Spain, this should be Granada." Granada is a fairytale city, known for its unique historic, artistic and cultural heritage. Some of its most important attractions include the Alhambra Palace, the gardens at the Palacio de Generalife, and AlbaycĂn, the Arab neighborhood declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO. Enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of a smaller urban area and an economy more focused on its university and students than tourists - the ideal setting to hone your Spanish language skills. Granada also offers you countless cultural events like flamenco, jazz, tango, film festivals, theater, poetry, a vibrant night life, sophisticated shopping area and traditional markets. Granada is less than an hour from the Mediterranean beaches and the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. While taking a break from your studies, escape to the numerous beaches and ski resorts that surround the area.
