Description

Study abroad for a semester or year at Southern Cross University with GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, formerly known as AustraLearn.

Southern Cross University is named after the constellation of stars that appears in the night sky of the Southern Hemisphere. The constellation is a potent symbol in Australias history and also forms part of the Australian national flag.

The University recognizes that Study Abroad students want to experience as much of the lifestyle, culture and environment of Australia as possible during their time at the University. To facilitate this, a number of excursions and activities are arranged throughout each semester to the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, local national parks and other well known areas.

The University is a popular destination for students who are seeking a non-city experience, the opportunity to discover the true culture, environment and hospitality of Australia. It offers subjects in areas typically of interest to study abroad students, and is situated in one of Australia's most beautiful locations.

Your study abroad experience is all about you! GlobaLinks Learning Abroad is here to assist you in your path of discovery throughout the study abroad experience. We design our programs so that our local and overseas staff are available 24 hours a day to support you in health and safety matters and are also key in enhancing your study abroad experience. Through our planned activities and resident director's personal recommendations for activities you can undertake while abroad, you will be directed on a path of personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional discovery. This team, which supports you throughout your experience, will ensure that you have the most fulfilling experience possible - one that is unique to you! So...What Will You Discover?

Highlights

Each semester a special one week 4WD camping excursion is held for study abroad students. While the trip varies it has recently been held between Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Alice Springs in Central Australia in an area justifiably famous worldwide. You would have the opportunity to experience places of spiritual significance to the local indigenous people such as Ayers Rock (Uluru), The Olga's, Kings Canyon (Watarka) and Palm Valley. These spectacular places are not found anywhere else in the world. You then get to do some 4WD travel up the old Finke River , camp overnight around a fire, swim in waterholes, and see no other travelers for days. This is the real Australia and an experience you will never forget.

Another popular trip is the camping trip to Fraser Island the world's largest sand island. This trip includes kayaking to see dolphins and a visit to an Aboriginal community.

For those students who wish to learn how to surf whilst they are in Australia, the surf safari held at Byron Bay is ideal. When possible the surfing trip is run to coincide with the major festivals and events held in Byron so that students can enjoy the atmosphere.

The latest trip, is a local camping and bushwalking trip that encompasses the mountains, the rainforest and the ocean. This trip includes learning about bush foods and Aboriginal culture.
