School: Lorenzo de' Medici
In an exciting new extension of its activities, Athena's partner school Lorenzo de' Medici (LdM) recently began its Rome campus.

LdM Rome students can choose courses in traditional subjects such as history, classical civilizations, art, restoration, and literature, or more contemporary subjects such as international business, political science, environmental sciences, or gender studies. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of professionals and various national and international institutions located throughout Rome.

* Facilities
Athena's Rome campus is located in the center of this historic city. The facilities form part of an elegant Umbertine palace constructed at the end of the 19th century. The building has been redesigned to provide modern and functional rooms that include studios and classrooms.

Many of the principal sites and monuments of Rome such as the Spanish Steps, the Quirinale, and the Trevi Fountain are within walking distance of the facility. This central location can be easily reached from any part of the city by public transportation. LdM is less than five minutes away from the central rail station (Termini) that services both airports.

LDM is equipped with modern computer and language labs, comfortable classrooms and knowledgeable faculty. One of the primary missions of the Lorenzo de' Medici School, which has been operating its main campus in Florence for more than 30 years, is to promote global education through authentic cultural immersion programs and a diverse international student population.

Resident Director
Dr. Stefano Parenti.

Highlights

The classic and historic city of Rome is one of the most ancient cities in all of Europe. The capital of Italy is a cultural treasure chest of Christian, Medieval, Baroque, and Renaissance influences.

Rome itself is a piece of art that captures the journey from antiquity to modernity. While wandering through the open-air markets and outdoor cafes of the city's wealth of piazzas, it becomes evident that Rome is a colorful mosaic of peoples, cultures, and nations.

Rome Highlights:

If being in awe of history, power and art is what you desire, then Rome is the city for you. Rome is saturated with history around every turn, with ancient sites such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Vatican adorning the city's landscape.

But Rome is much more than its history, as it has adapted to become an influential city in the modern world. Open-air markets and outdoor cafes create a colorful and energetic environment that you soon won't forget. The rich taste of Roman culture will stay on your palate for the rest of your life.

Athena Study Abroad's Mission Statement

Athena was developed in an effort to bring study abroad back to what it was intended to be - true, cultural immersion programs designed by knowledgeable, caring professionals. Athena programs are different in that students are enrolled at small schools overseas in an effort to maintain the personalized service throughout the semester that Athena prides itself on providing.  Athena offers its students programs that are focused on intense, cultural immersion which puts them in touch with the locals of their host country, elements of the host culture, and other international students from around the world to ensure a well-rounded, diverse experience. In addition, a percentage of Athena's proceeds are donated to a chosen world charity through our S.O.S. Program (Students Offering Support), which allows students to give back to the world that welcomed them during their semester abroad.
