Description

Arcadia's College of Global Studies developed its undergraduate semester and summer programs in Tanzania in coordination with Arcadia University's International Peace and Conflict Resolution Master's program. Spend a semester, or even an academic year, abroad furthering your Graduate study experience into an international adventure.

Students will focus on the region of East Africa specifically, and their studies will be informed by the work of the legal and developmental human rights organizations in operation there. Central to the program curriculum is the required core course, ARUS SMCI 310, Tanzania in the Midst of Peace and Conflict: Conflicts, Peace and Security in East Africa. This four-credit course will consider current events and issues in the country and the region. It will explore practical approaches to various human-rights issues.

In addition to taking the core course, students will enroll in a required course in the Kiswahili language, at a level corresponding to your individual proficiency. Finally, students select two additional courses, from those offered by the program, in political science and sociology, culture, and development. (All courses are four-credit hours, for a total of 16 credits per semester).

Students will be taught by expert faculty in the field of peace and international conflict studies. In addition, they will interact with collaborating partners, including the East African Law Society, as well as with numerous guest speakers from major African governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the East African Community (EAC), the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UN ICTR), and the African Union Court of Human and People's Rights.

The program is designed to help students gain an understanding of cultural and experiential exchange. Lessons both inside and outside the classroom will be invaluable.

You will earn sixteen semester hours of credit for the semester program.
