Description
Enjoy the combination of real-world experience with academic courses through Arcadia's challenging London Internship program. Courses are scheduled to help facilitate students' understanding of the global workplace. Whether you want to gain financial experience in a commodities brokerage, work in an auction house or at an advertising agency, explore non-profit management or assist a British MP in the houses of Parliament, our internships consist of much more than mere observation or filing paperwork. In addition to your 3-day-a-week internship placement, you will also write a substantial paper or complete an independent project. The project should demonstrate resourcefulness, independent thought, an understanding of the issues confronting your particular industry or profession and a mature work ethic.
While our internship program is not for the timid and will require good time management skills, the chance to work and study in London provides one of the best study abroad experiences available. You'll take part in British life and culture in ways that few students are able to, while also gaining valuable working experience. And you can earn a full semester's worth of credit.
Credits
Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn the following hours of credit.
* Fall semester: 14-16 credits.
* Spring semester: 14-16 credits.
Admission Requirements
GPA Requirements: 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. A 3.5 GPA is required for finance and banking placements.
You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.
All internship applicants should submit the following documents in addition to the general application: a current resume (include computer/software skills); a one-page, written statement detailing your reasons for pursuing a specific internship, and the skills and experiences that you have obtained which make you a good candidate; and a field work request and two special placement forms. If you are pursuing an internship in the fields of fine art, architecture, graphic design, journalism, or interior design, you must submit a non-returnable portfolio of your work.
Highlights
An Arcadia program isn't just about enrolling you in an overseas institution. It's about all of the services that we provide. Before you go, you can contact our program manager for advice on the application process, choosing courses, or simply what you should pack. Once you arrive, our resident director will lead an orientation program in London that will introduce you to the culture, history and politics of England as well as prepare you for the academic challenges of studying in a different educational system. During the semester, you can expect to participate in excursions that are designed to allow you to reflect on the learning that is taking place outside the classroom.
It's almost impossible to explain in words the educational and cultural experience that study abroad can be, but you should know that Arcadia will be there to help you get the most out of the experience.
