* Art
This program is designed for students who are looking for a unique and privileged artistic experience in the heart of Athens. The Athens Centre's summer art workshop is a three week session concentrating on creating images of Greece through various media, which include but are not limited to watercolor, pastels, charcoal, collage, pencil, ink and mixed media.
* Poetry
This program is designed for students who want to focus on writing and appreciation of poetry in the land where western literature was born. Experience the place that has continued to inspire English-language poets through the ages, from Lord Byron and Rupert Brooke to James Merrill and Seamus Heaney. Develop your writing skills in a vibrant, historic setting during this three-week session in Athens.
* Language
This program is designed for students who are looking to immerse themselves in Greek language and culture. Study Modern Greek Language, offered in five levels from Beginning through Intermediate and Advanced. Classes emphasize spoken Greek and include reading and written exercises, workbooks, and other materials. Take part in a unique summer opportunity in the heart of Athens. The Athens Centre's Modern Greek language program is considered to be the most comprehensive of its kind.
Highlights
The Art Workshop takes place at the Athens Centre's neoclassical facility in the central Athens area of Mets. The Athens Centre has sponsored various types of art workshops and courses for more than 40 years, both in Athens and on the Greek islands of Aegina, Spetses and Naxos.
The Summer Greek Language program takes place at the Athens Centre's neoclassical facility in the central Athens area of Mets. The Athens Centre Modern Greek language program enrolls approximately 600 participants from around the world each year.
The Athens Centre has been sponsoring poetry programs in Greece since 1970; well-known writers who have taken part in the programs over the years include Gregory Corso, James Merrill, Alan Ansen, Rachel Hadas, David Mason, Christopher Bakken, Katerina Angelaki-Rook, Tassos Denegris, and many others.
The capital city of Athens is a lively cosmopolitan metropolis, central to economic, financial, political and cultural life in Greece. Summer evening activities start late, and are centered around outdoor cafes, restaurants and open air theatre and musical events.
