Arcadia University: Summer Programs in Greece (On the Trail of Alexander the Great)
This intensive three-week course will carry you back to the life and times of Alexander the Great. The program explores the life and times of Alexander the Great through classroom-based seminars and a full schedule of field-study excursions that incorporates visits to the Greek island of Samos, as well as to the Turkish cities of Ephesos, Priene and Miletus. The program will begin in Athens, where you will participate in lectures that will introduce you to Alexander and his contemporaries, as well as explore related monuments and museums. We will then head north to Alexander's birthplace and base of power. On the way, we will visit Chaironeia and Pydna, two major battle sites that influenced the rise of power in the north and the demise of democratic Greece. Additionally, you'll have the chance to explore the ruins of excavated cities that once dominated the ancient world. We will then move on to the Greek island of Samos, famous for its Sanctuary to Hera. Here you will learn about Hellenistic civilization and discover it was a capitalist society not very different from our own! Credits and Grades You will earn the following semester hours of credit: 3 per session Admission Requirements GPA Requirements: 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.
